How did we get here?
Muslim youth have faced barriers in accessing mainstream mental health support services.
This is often linked with the stigma associated with help-seeking behaviors, and experiences of mental health (CMY & Orygen, 2019).
We’ve heard many anecdotal experiences where our family and peers are in dire need for religiously and culturally appropriate mental health treatment and support.
Our experiences have also been supported by research (Verwey, 2018).
As a consequence, we are more susceptible to present severe symptoms of mental ill-health.
And it’s time we take action.
